The MNPS Family Portal - The Classroom at Your Fingertips

The MNPS Family Portal - The Classroom at Your Fingertips

In Gradebook, teachers can upload assignments for a student and assign a due date and a grade. Families will be able to see all of this information in Family Portal. Using the Messages function of Infinite Campus, teachers can send a message to all students, a specific group of students, or one student and they can communicate with families using Messages, too. Teachers can contact all families with one message, or they can contact certain family groups or just one student’s family. To encourage student-to-student interaction, teachers can create a discussion board post that students can interact with. In addition, teachers can select for families to have the ability to see the discussion board. When a student logs in to Infinite Campus, they will receive notifications to check their messages, their grades, and other updates from their teacher like any new assignment details… Students can also interact with their teacher and classmates with discussion boards. With Family Portal, parents have access to the classroom in the palm of their hands using their cell phone or computer. Parents can receive notifications about grades and attendance and receive messages from the teacher after reviewing messages, parents can continue the conversation with the teacher by replying. With Family Portal, families know more about their child’s education. With frequent updates and easier parent/teacher communications, families are more informed and engaged with their student’s classroom. More often than not, teachers cannot instantly grade an assignment. Using Gradebook, though, teachers can mark the assignment as ‘turned in’ until they can input a student’s grade. When the teacher is ready to grade the assignment, she can open the Gradebook and input the grade. Because she initially marked the assignment as ‘turned in,’ the student’s assignment is never considered late, regardless of when the grade is inputted. As soon as grades are entered, parents, can be notified on their mobile device, if they opted in to push notifications. This means families are always engaged with the most important parts of their student’s education.
