Question: What Do I Do If I Have Experience, But No Certifications?

Question: What Do I Do If I Have Experience, But No Certifications?

I am 42 years old and have been working in IT since 1999, after taking a computer networking and business management program. Much like you, I excelled in intermediate and senior positions early in my career. However I find myself in tug-of war battle in my career. The company I work for will inevitably be laying me off due to finacial hardships, so I've been applying to various positions. Most of my experience is with Service Management or IT Project Managemet. The problem I'm having is getting interviews. Although I have tons of experience, I don't have any formal project management training or valid certs. I just havent needed them since finishing school. 15 years of experience should speak to my capabilities???Right? So the question is, which means more to employers in your experience, a IT professional's proven experience or certifications? Any advice? I don't have the resources to afford university/PMP. And it it would be kind of a kick in the teeth to takes courses on something I've been doing most my adult life. -Kenney ********** Schedule a Skype Meeting with Eli: https://silicondiscourse.com To Ask Questions Email: Question@EliTheComputerGuy.com Signup for our email list at: http://www.elithecomputerguy.com/email-signup/ (#Microstopped... Question: Do I Need a Degree or Certifications to be a Consultant?

Question: Do I Need a Degree or Certifications to be a Consultant?

Is it a good idea start my work in the IT field from self-employment and self-study everything I need to know like programming languages? I am a 27-year-old female. Computers have always been my hobby but I am a master of arts so I don't have any qualifications in this field. I can say that I am quite computer savvy and I know HTML, CSS and have a good knowledge of operation of computers. However, I am no specialist (at least not yet). Two years ago I dropped my job to pursue my dream and started creating websites. I now have two websites and come income from AdSense and Amazon Affiliate program. If the numbers keep rising, I will soon be able to sustain myself from these websites. I always wanted to be an independent entrepreneur, not an employer. Is is a good idea to stay "on my own" and learn all I need to learn or should I start in a more "traditional" way (e.g. get a degree , look for my first job and then think about self-employment)? I am almost 28, I live in eastern Europe and I need to have income and I cannot really go to university again right now but I cannot imagine myself in any other field than IT. -Olga ********** To Ask Questions Email: Question@EliTheComputerGuy.com Patreon Campaign for a Geekier world: http://www.patreon.com/elithecomputerguy Signup for our email list at: http://www.elithecomputerguy.com/email-signup/ (#Microstopped...
