Some pics of the old Roadway Express terminal in Kalamazoo, MI along with a shot of a Roadway orange trailer. The fourth pic is of the terminal with after it closed with the trailer without legs left abandoned. The fifth pic is of the back of a trailer I was behind that had the old style black Roadway strip on the door, and the final pic I didn't take, but it shows an orange trailer. I remember the orange trailers were around briefly in 1983.
Michigan Paving & Materials Company of Kalamazoo lays the first layer of asphalt on the north side of Stadium Drive at Seneca Lane. Their direction of travel is easterly and this was recorded in the morning, so the sun is in this video. This is an extended right turn lane, not a regular traffic lane. Not seen in this video: among the various contractors working on this project, there has been good minority representation (African Americans, Mexicans). In particular, some of the machine drivers have been female, though I haven't seen any females outside the vehicles doing any manual labor. Also not seen in this video: what happened right after Stadium Drive was paved in front of McDonald's. They lost a high percentage of customers, who looked at the fresh, hot asphalt and decided to not drive over it. Among those who braved the temporary road condition, two black females got stuck. They were so slow and cautious about driving over the pavement that they did not have enough momentum to get over the concrete curb poured in prior days. The first one didn't know what to do. She was driving a rear-wheel drive Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Grand Marquis and her spinning rear wheels left deep ruts in the fresh asphalt. The steam roller driver had to tell her how to get unstuck. The second female was able to figure out on her own that she needed to back up and mount the curb with a running start. The steam roller operator had to keep going back and forth over this area to smooth out the tire tracks of the entering and exiting vehicles (there are two driveways). This video was recorded at 7:56 a.m. EDT on Saturday, July 12, 2014 with a handheld iPhone 4.

The three-race tour of southwestern Michigan continues for the AST Voltson Super Trucks. One week after racing in Rothbury, the series visits Kalamazoo Speedway; the banked and fast 3/8-miler that has seen great racing in years past. Thirty teams are on the entry list for the race (a number that we rarely see anywhere other than MIS), and there will be two Heat races to determine the 26-truck starting field for the 75-lap Feature. ------------------------------ The music that is played during the highlights of the Feature is a rock remix of "Bowser Land (World Bowser)" from Super Mario 3D World. It is performed by Shady Cicada, whose channel you can visit by using the following link. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-90KuSWRVLImW4xHWFYMnQ
