Pitching Mechanics with Coach Keith Tasaka, Annie Blaine and Kirsten Rowell

Keith Tasaka Keith Tasaka has spent the majority of his tenure coaching for 21 years at Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, VA. He was the Head JV coach in 1986, the Assistant Varsity Softball Coach from 1987-1995, and the Head Varsity Softball Coach from 1996-2008. In 1998 he was selected All-Liberty District Coach of the Year and All- Northern Region Coach of the Year. He was also the Assistant Freshman Football Coach at Hayfield High School (Alexandria, VA) from 1999 to 2004 and Pitching Coach for the Tsunami Softball Travel team from 2003 to 2008. Keith started offering private softball instruction in 2001. Since then, he has worked extensively with L.B. Bailey who is considered one of the top pitching instructors in the world. (Bailey was one of the 2004 Olympic Coaches for the Greek Fastpitch Team in Athens, Greece. In 2002, Bailey was the coach for the Chinese National Team as they competed at the World Championship). Keith hosted L.B. pitching clinics from 2004-2008. In 2008 he assisted L.B. Bailey in an Olympic Clinic where Mark Doran, Amanda Freed, Lovieanne Jung were also present. In 2008, he was offered an Assistant Coaching Position at the University of Mary Washington to primarily work with the pitchers, catchers and hitters. Currently, Keith is the Golf Course Superintendent at Greendale Golf Course with the Fairfax County Park Authority. He still travels back and forth to Fredericksburg to coach at UMW, and spends many hours at softball games and tournaments scouting and recruiting. When available, he offers private lessons and clinics to players of all levels (from youth league to NCAA Division I players). Kirsten Rowell Kirsten Rowell graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 2005. She attended the University of Mary Washington (2005-2009) and studied Elementary Education and Historic Preservation. She received her Master's Degree in Elementary Education in 2010. While at Mount Vernon, Kirsten was a Team Captain during her senior year. She was selected as 1st Team All-District (2004 & 2005); 1st Team All Region (2004); National District Pitcher of the Year (2004); Honorable Mention All-Metropolitan; and received a medal from the Army for the Scholar Athlete Award in 2005. While playing at Mary Washington, Kirsten received many honors including: Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Player of the Week on 4 occasions (2007 & 2009) and Atlantic Region Player of the Week on one occasion (2009). She was on the All-Capital Athletic Conference 1st Team (2007, 2008, & 2009) and the 2nd Team All-State through VaSID (2008 & 2009). She was also a Team Captain in 2009. Kirsten holds many records at Mary Washington. They include Most Wins in a Season (19); Most Wins in a Career (51); Most Strikeouts in a Season (306); Most Strikeouts in a Career (597); Lowest ERA for a Season (1.14); Lowest ERA for a Career (1.52); Most Innings Pitched in a Season (215.1); and Most Appearances in a Career (98). She also holds records in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC): 1st for Most Strikeouts in a Season (306); 1st for Most Number of Career Saves (4); 2nd for Most Strikeouts in a Career (597); and 2nd for Lowest ERA for a Career (1.52). During her senior year at Mary Washington in 2009, she was ranked 5th in the NCAA (D-III) for Strikeouts per 7 Innings (9.9) and Number of Saves (4). After college, she played professionally in Switzerland (2010 & 2011) and won the Swiss National Championship both years. She played in the European Cup in Bulgaria in 2011 where she was selected the Best Pitcher of the European Cup. Kirsten is now an Elementary School Teacher with FCPS and is also currently working with some of the young pitchers in the Fort Hunt and Mount Vernon areas. Annie Blaine Annie Blaine graduated from Yorktown high school in 2009. She was a Varsity letter winner and team captain 2005-2009. Annie had a very successful high school career earning two National District championships, and was twice named to the Virginia Scholastic team. She was also Second Team All-District in 2008 and First Team All-District in 2009. Annie's playing experience includes the Vienna Stars 14U (2004-2006), Fairfax Firebirds (2007-2009), and the Tsunami 23U (2010). In 2009 Annie attended the University of Mary Washington and is pursuing a double major in Sociology and Psychology. Currently, she is a Senior Captain on the University of Mary Washington Softball Team.
