As you grow older and become an adult, this number becomes a bit smaller: 60%. -The Institute of Medicine recommends that women drink no less than 72 oz of water a day, which equals 9 cups. As for men, they need more water: 104 oz (or 13 cups) a day. -If you don't get enough water, your body temperature won't stay within its normal range. Your joints won't be lubricated and cushioned. Your body waste won't be able to leave your body through sweat, urine, and bowel movements. Even your spine will end up unprotected. -Your body will simply stop functioning without water. Every single cell needs this liquid to work and live. -Too much water in your body dilutes electrolytes in the blood. As a result, sodium levels go down. It’s actually not about how much water you are getting but staying hydrated. Water is vital for your health. The biggest side effects of not getting enough water can be headaches, lack of energy, weight gain, lack of cleansing and detoxification, weakened immune response, getting the cold and flu easily, or feeling lethargic. Proper hydration is so important to your overall health. To stay properly hydrated, I have four recommendations. First, I would recommend drinking about half of your body weight in ounces a day. I would also suggest you get more fruits and vegetables in your diet, which are full of electrolytes. Next, I would recommend consuming all-natural sea salts in your food (Himalayan salt or Celtic salt), which helps your body stay hydrated. Lastly, I would encourage you to exercise more. Exercise can support the process of hydration because movement increases circulation, increasing electrolyte levels into your cells.
