Mexican frijoles can easily be made at home; not only are they more delicious than anything you can buy in cans, they are cheeper and have less packaging. INGREDIENTS Beans: pinto, red, black, soaked overnight 1 onion, sliced horizontally 1 head garlic, sliced horizontally 2 bay leaves 1 teaspoon cumin seeds water to cover beans by 1.5"/4cm salt, to taste Drain the soaking liquid from your beans and place them in a heavy bottomed pan with a lid. Add the remainder of the ingredients (except salt). Bring your beans to a boil then reduce heat to a vigorous simmer. Cook until tender. When the beans are nearly tender salt them taste.
